Lola has the right idea, home centers also sell fake rocks that go right over them.

tafbutton blue16 I have some electrical boxes in my front yard. What kind of landscaping design can cover these boxes?

I would like to know if there are any websites that I can find that can give me some ideas/pictures of landscapes that I could do for our yard. I have some bulbs of some flowers, but would like to know if there are any pictures of flowering landscapes that I can go by visually. I have searched but I don't really know of any. Thanks in advance for your help.

You can get some creative ideas from Better Homes & Gardens, hope it helps?

tafbutton blue16 Any landscaping ideas for a subdivision house with a small to medium yard?

Our backyard has a slope from the fence to about 6 feet out. It's about 4 feet difference. i need some ideas to camoflage the slope. There's not much that can be done as far as leveling without having to replace the entire fence.

Instead of trying to hide it make a feature of it with a fairly steep terrace of flower beds, putting low lying plants at the lower levels in the front and gradually increase plant hight as you get higher up the terrace.
or a alpine feature with large stones and gravel and some lovely alpine plants

I first got into gardening a few years ago when I moved into a home with a backyard big enough to allow me to set aside a patch of land for my vegetables and flowers. Initially, I wanted to cultivate these various plants for practical and aesthetic reasons. I would use the veggies to help feed my family, while the flowers would serve to add color and beauty to the yard. But as time passed, I discovered that gardening provided me with a highly relaxing way to spend my weekends. I learned to love the activity for its own sake, regardless of the output, so now I'm out in the yard every time I have a free moment.

Of course, with a hobby like this, I need to have a constant supply of the right materials and equipment to make everything work. That soon got to be pretty expensive, which is why I first considered buying garden supplies online. To be sure, there are several nurseries and home improvement stores near me that sell the exact products I need -- but at a higher price than web retailers charge. Once I discovered that I could easily buy discount garden supplies online, I pretty much stopped shopping elsewhere.

What I particularly enjoy about purchasing garden supplies online is how I can find anything I want with just a few clicks of my mouse. Obviously all the stores carry various seeds, seedlings, and flower bulbs, so finding those items will never be a problem. But I can also check out a huge selection of planters, tools, and other accessories that I might need. I remember how I once wanted to try a special fertilizer for my roses, which I couldn't find at any of the local shops I used to visit. But I got on the internet and found a good deal on the exact product within minutes. The same goes for some of the different organic pest control products I've wanted to try, as well as beneficial insects that are vital to healthy gardens.

Stores that sell garden supplies online also carry merchandise that help improve the backyard as a whole. For example, it's quite common for me to add something like wind chimes, lawn ornaments, or outdoor lighting to my order. In the near future, I would also like to put in one of those koi ponds that are so popular these days. It's wonderful to know that I can purchase everything I need for my pond from the same places that I get garden supplies online. I'm all about convenience and ease!

Anyway, if you're considering getting into gardening, I wholeheartedly recommend that you do so. This is a worthwhile activity that can yield a number of benefits, both in terms of what you grow and what it does for your general health and well-being. Get started today by buying a few basic garden supplies online right now!

300px Tomatos in vegie garden Novel Gardening Ideas the Upside Down Garden

Image via Wikipedia

So you have a problem with your garden pests, and you've tried everything you can think of; but have you tried turning your garden upside down? No this is not a joke. They're actually selling upside down planters now to help you grow your garden in pots turned over; and most recent converts are so crazy over this that they refuse to ever grow a normal garden ever again. As gardening ideas go, this one is terribly popular now, as my gardening enthusiast friend (a tattoo artist in Montréal) enthusiastically tells me. His problem was that he would try to grow tomatoes in the kitchen garden patch he had in the normal way. But cutworms were eating his patch inside out and he tried every normal kind of pesticide without success. Rather than go industrial-strength with the poison, he began to look around for other gardening ideas. Being good with his hands and all (you have to be, to be a tattoo artist), he decided to get his tomatoes off the ground, it away from the worms.

He got a few 4 gallon plastic buckets; he packed them with dirt and compost to make the planters, cut a hole at the bottom of each to insert a tomato seedling in through, put in a little bit of wet newspaper as packing around to anchor it, and then hung them upside down on steel hooks and chains strung around his backyard. It was about the best crop he had had in a long time. The preserves and sauces he made, (I got a bottle of it) were pretty good. I'd always encourage him to try newfangled gardening ideas like this if it could net me a great bottle of its yield.

Reverse gardening like this works great with certain kinds of plants - cucumbers, peppers and of course tomatoes. The popularity of upside down gardening could be attributed in part perhaps to the way topsy-turvy planters are there to buy at Wal-Mart and every other big box retailer. Upside down planters are really catching on at Bed, Bath and Beyond, Gardener's Supply and other gardening providers. It's a concept that's totally of its time. So what exactly is it that inspires people to accept gardening ideas like this? To begin with, it does fine for a small home; it needs almost no space, cages or stakes. Weeds don't like it up there, and garden pests seem to not tolerate the novel position. It gets better water and air, and it's impossible to over-water.

It's almost impossible to go wrong with upside-down gardening. You'll find that tomatoes and jalapenos, two garden plants that are difficult to get the thrive in a regular right side up garden, are effortless to get to take root upside down. They even seem to grow bigger and more robust this way. When I tried topsy-turvy planters myself, I didn't seem to get anywhere; they are made of plastic bags and somehow my tomatoes never seem to prefer them. When I used plastic buckets nailed to posts around my back porch, and planted herbs at the top for moisture record retention, my tomatoes did very well. Perhaps the reason for that is that Topsy-Turvy uses perforated plastic bags; and they can dry the earth out really quickly. But I found that large-yield tomatoes don't really work well hanging upside down. They're just too heavy for the little vines to support.

If you get creative with your gardening ideas, you can use just about any kind of container, or an unperforated plastic bag. Look up upside down gardening ideas on Youtube, or Upsidedowntomatoplant.com for more ideas.

Backyard Landscaping Ideas

Backyard landscaping ideas are legion, and can be used to transform a common old block of land into something quite marvelous. Just about any backyard can be transformed to a higher level with the right ideas and the right amount of effort, let us not forget: attitude, imagination, and creativity, will go a long way in assisting, too. Given a short amount of time, you will be able to make something beautiful out of your ordinary backyard block of land.

One of the most effective methods of achieving this, is with the use of plants for landscaping. Filling a garden with plants can help transform any backyard into lively place of beauty. Over time, the plants that you have chosen for your backyard landscape, will give the place its own personality, as they grow and spread their branches.
If you wish to give your home that stately old english look, some largish evergreen trees will give that noble look that you mostly see in elegant mansions and homes. The same elegance can be implied with the addition of large evergreens in your backyard.
Color is important in any backyard, and the addition of flowering plants here and there will add contrast . Roses lined along a path-way always makes for a pleasant if not grand stroll. A garden bed, specifically for roses, gives a magnificent confetti effect, full of life - with the added bonus of cut-flowers for the house, and gloriously heady perfume all around.
If you are wanting color in your garden, but don't have the spare time required to care for garden beds regularly, you could always create a wildflower garden. Wildflower gardens require little maintenance in order to succeed, and give your backyard a bit of a rustic look, that you may prefer over mown lawns, wickedly sharpe edges, and seemingly sterile backyard landscapes.
Filling your backyard with plants certainly solves the problem of spending part of your precious weekend trying to mow large expanses of lawn, by reducing the lawn area that you need to mow. A vegetable garden acheives much the same result.

Another way to reduce some mowing area in your backyard is the application of "hardscapes". Hardscape, refers to all those additions to your landscape, that are not actually growing - like decks, paths, patios, etc. This is another landscaping idea that you can incorporate, with the use of plants or trees, to make your backyard even more interesting - if not practical. You could have a rock-garden, fences or walls, possibly a fish-pond or fountain, a pergola or deck perhaps, to create alternative elements of beauty in your backyard.
The use of hardscapes, to the exclusion of everything else, is not only unattractive, it is also cheating.
Not only is it pretty lazy, but also, you are cheating your family, and indeed yourself, out of the beauty and serenity, that only a planted garden can afford. Try not to overdo the big bits.

So, really, your imagination and willingness for "some" work, are the only things preventing you from implimenting some backyard landscaping ideas.
